Programs
Nutrition Assistance to the Hungry
Decades of war have left many Afghan families struggling to find their next meal. In the country’s most food‑insecure provinces, AHA delivers monthly rations of rice, flour, oil, legumes, and fortified staples. We partner with local suppliers to source fresh produce and meat, ensuring balanced meals that combat malnutrition. Our volunteers coordinate distributions at community centers and door‑to‑door for families with limited mobility, and provide basic nutrition education so households can make every calorie count.
Clean Water Well Construction
Afghanistan’s water table has been dropping drastically—and as a landlocked nation, it lacks rivers large enough to meet demand. Access to safe water transforms health, agriculture, and education. AHA identifies villages without reliable water sources, conducts hydrogeological surveys, and drills deep boreholes fitted with hand‑pumps or solar‑powered systems. Each project includes training for a local water committee in maintenance, water‑quality testing, and fee‑collection for spare parts—ensuring wells remain operational for years to come.
Orphan & Widow Sponsorship
Four decades of conflict have orphaned thousands of children and left countless women to fend for themselves. Through our sponsorship program, we cover school fees, stationery, uniforms, and monthly living stipends for orphans. Widows receive healthcare subsidies, vocational training (sewing, weaving, small‑business skills), and psychosocial counseling. Our caseworkers conduct home visits to monitor progress and connect each beneficiary with local support networks, fostering resilience and community integration.
Economic Empowerment
True recovery comes from self‑reliance. Decades of upheaval have left many without jobs or skills—so AHA offers vocational training in trades such as carpentry, tailoring, and agriculture. Graduates receive startup toolkits or micro‑grants to launch small enterprises. Local mentors guide them through business planning, bookkeeping, and marketing—creating sustainable income streams that lift entire families out of poverty.
Emergency Assistance for Afghan Returnees
Political instability in neighboring countries has driven waves of Afghan returnees home—often arriving with nothing. AHA’s Rapid Relief Team provides immediate aid: emergency shelter kits, hygiene supplies, blankets, and hot meals. We also offer case management to connect returnees with government services, legal assistance, and job‑placement referrals, easing their reintegration into Afghan society.
